Subject: Transfer of deeded property as a gift

Question
My aunt lives in North Carolina and she has a piece of undeveloped property in Ohio.(I live in Ohio)She wants to deed the property over to myself as a gift.Where do we even start in order to do this? Do we both have to be here in Ohio to sign papers? Is everything taken care of through my local county recorder?Anything you can provide on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Yes, you need to start with a title agency.  As with any business I would check to see if you can get a referral from an agent that uses a specific title agency regularly (in your area).  I have only had problems with one title agency in my experience but you never know!  They will prepare the deed for the transfer and process all paperwork accordingly.  There will be some fee's associated with the process but it should be minimal.  Let me know if you need a referral in the Cincinnati area.  Also, I do believe that they can overnight the documents to your aunt prior to the transfer for her signatures but there will be a fee for that as well.  Good luck!
