Question We built our home last year and my in-laws are acting as our bank. They paid cash for everything and we are paying them the mortgage with interest. We haven't yet gotten the title put into our name. My husband doesn't think it is necessary but I would like to because it will help us with our property taxes and for my own protection (I would like my name on the title, just makes sense...)
My husband thinks the whole thing will just be too costly and he feels totally comfortable with what we are doing. How much will it cost to get it transferred and what all will it take?
Answer Amy,
This is much easier than your husband thinks. Since there is no mortgage company involved (so to speak) you can go to a title company and get them to assist you. Contact a local title company and discuss your situation with them. They can also let you know how much it will cost.
You are correct regarding the property taxes and the protection of having your name along with your husbands.
