Question Hi, I received a surprise letter from my Harris county tax assessor demanding payment of $8,000 for 2001 taxes on my home/property. However, I did not purchase the home until 2004. It is crazy that should I pay for taxes that I never incurred. What is my best recourse? Requesting the title company to pay them? Hopefully, I do not have to personally sue previous owners. Thank you!
Answer Have you called the title company yet and told them about the situation? Typically during a real estate transaction the title company uncovers these sort of things. I bet if you give them a call they will be glad to help you resolve the matter.
