Question
I know he is a vegetarian but why?

Answer
Hey Amy!!
Actually, he is what is known as a "pescatarian" or "vegaquarian" which is someone who eats seafood.  I also read an article from September '06, in which he states he recently started eating wild game bird.
Why does he choose this lifestyle?  Well, it's been my experience that most vegetarians do have a myriad of motivations behind this choice such as religious views, ethical reasons, environmental motivations, and health reasons.  In Anthony's case, I believe it's a combination of ethical, environmental, and health reasoning.  As we all know, Anthony is a great animal lover (ethical), as well he is an environmental advocate.  Now, while I don't know too much about it, I do know that some vegetarians submit to reasoning the fact that cows (who are bread for human consumption) emit methane gas (their waste), which is partially responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer...this could be an argument for vegetarianism on the environmental front.  It is a well known fact that animals mass produced for human consumption are kept in, and ultimately killed in less than humane conditions.  Some vegetarians will eat meat which is "free range", or hunted; that is an animal in the wild not kept in pens and slaughtered with sledgehammers.  We all know too, that Anthony has Hepatitis, which he is virtually symptom free of, attributed to his ozone injections, however, it could be argued that vegetarianism is simply a much healthier lifestyle for someone with a depleted immune system; it could be a concious choice made for health reasons as well.  So, I'm not really sure "why", only he can answer that for sure....but I speculate it's likely one or more of the reasons I spoke of (or all of them)
Thanks for the question!!  I wish I knew more about the subject :D

Expertise

I have been a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers since I was 12 years old, and as such, have become quite knowledgeable on pretty much any subject with regards to this wonderful anomalous phenomenon! Anything from lyrical questions to love lives, you ask it, I'll answer it, or die trying! Technical questions relating to the band's musical instruments are not my forte.

Experience

I first became intrigued by the Chili Peppers, back in 1989 when my brother (God rest his musical soul--his musical tastes now have waned to Death/Thrash metal) introduced me to the band, and became further enamored after seeing the video for "True Men Don't Kill Cyotes". The entire concept of these wonderful freaks of nature, now became my reason for existing. During these years, I did manage to procure an assortment of Chili Peppers memorobilia, including, but not limited to: The entire album collection from 1984's self titled "The Red Hot Chili Peppers", to the most current release "Stadium Arcadium". My VHS and DVD collection includes "Funky Monks", "Off the Map", and "Live at Slane Castle". I've been to see them twice in '06, and hopefully will get to see them again in '07 when they begin their North American Tour with Gnarls Barkley!!! Most of my favourite songs remain unreleased, or are very hard to find.
