Reform Judaism/Daniel 9:24-27 and Antiochus IV

Dear Dr.Ovadiah,
Christian apoogists argue that the anointed leader mentioned in Daniel 9:24-27 refers to Jesus. Critical liberal scholars argue that it refers to Antiochus IV. This site argues against the liberal interpretation
"There is no credible evidence that the Jews themselves ever saw a connection between Daniel 9 and their sufferings under Antiochus. "

Is that true? If yes, how come there isn't any Jewish scholar who made the connection before the modern era if the author meant it to be obvious that he is referring to Antiochus IV? Doesn't that weaken the interpretation?

Thanks for your question. Simply put, Judaism has never had a Pope and there are varying opinions throughout the ages. Daniel clearly does not refer to Jesus but rather Cyrus. Here's a link you may find helpful:

Thanks again for your question. Hope this helps!
