About Valerie Edwards
Expertise I am not an expert or an artiste in the reggae music industry, but I will attempt to answer questions specifically in relation to lovers rock from the late 70s to the late 80s.
I may also be able to help with queries regarding revival, dancehall and reggae in general.
Experience My experience lies in being a listener and appreciater of reggae music of all genres since the 70s.
Lovers rock in particular is quite specific to the UK and I am often able to answer questions relating to artists and lyrics.
Education/Credentials I hope to share the knowledge that I have built up over the years with others, and in turn, learn more about a genre of music that I love.

Question QUESTION: Hello again Valerie,
There was a version of happy go lucky girl, I know that John Holt was one of the singers, but he sang it alongside someone who sounded like either Dennis Alcapone or U-Roy. Lyrics included "I have tried my best to change you, oh how much I'd love to control you*
I'd be thrilled if you know, I believe it was 1970's and either the Jumbo or Cactus label, not totally sure though. The B side was a song called Sammy.
Thanks
ANSWER: Hi Marcelle,
Good to hear from you again and happy to be able to help.
This track was U Roy & The Paragons and is also on his 'Version Galore' album.
You can listen to it here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5u-ZcietqY

QUESTION: Hello Valerie,
Thanks for replying so quickly, it wasn't that version. The closest I have found is this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOM9zvCEfOs. The B side of the track was definitely a song called Sammy. I know that the 45 itself had a yellow label which draws me to either Jumber or Cactus, but I seem to remember another popular label at that time too.
Thanks Valerie
ANSWER: Hi There,
Think I've definitely hit the nail on the head this time!
It was John Holt, Dennis Alcapone & Lizzy on the Ackee label (hence the yellow). Released in 1970 and credited to Lizzy and Dennis, the B side was 'Sammy' by Bobby James and Dave.
I've uploaded two versions here for you and hope that one of them is the one you're thinking of.

QUESTION: Valerie, any chance of uploading the B side? Last song for you to find, it was called feeling high (so High), I think Tappa Zukie was one of the main vocals. Lyrics include : Feeling high so high, I wannna touch the sky. I don't recall the label unfortunately.
Huge thanks to you,
Best wishes
Marcelle
Answer Hi Marcelle,
So glad that I have been able to help, especially in view of the poignant memories these tunes bring back for you. Again, not sure which version you wanted so they are both here.

In relation to the final tune you refer to, I think it might be the dub cut to Johnny Clarke's 'Everyday Wondering'. If so, then its called 'Ire Feelings/Feeling High' by Rupie Edwards and you can listen to it here.
