Why, from his own point of view, and apart from general humanitarian considerations, should anyone care what happens in future incarnations, since, if my understanding is correct, those will be different personalities.

Forrest, that's an interesting way of putting it!

Because our past personalities affect our future ones, just as our past experiences affect what happens in a present or future lifetime.

There are some people who think they can predict who they will be in the future, but I don't know about that - I know there is a certain amount of planning that might go on, but our experience moves forward rather like playing a chess game with a lot of different people - it's not just our will that builds the future life.  And yet - I have first hand experience of my self, and people I have known in the past and know now, who passed on a resemblance to our former selves so that our past lives and relationships to one another were recognizable. I know one of us could see the future, because he kept painting it!

One other thing - I've been able to track something within my own recalled and verified lives (my memories match records) - if I have experience a conflict in one life, later on I will experience the opposite side of the conflict! For example, if in this life you have a strong racial prejudice, the odds might be pretty good you will be a member of that race in a future life. So if you accept that as a possibility, and are honest with yourself about the conflicts in your present life, you do have a way of assessing your odds of being on the opposite side of things in a future lifetime.

All of our lives tie into one another and affect the others. I have even seen examples of my current life "showing up" in events of my past ones! So the reality of how time behaves may be something we will never understand fully...
