But - for now: I have carried forward most of my skills from past lives, but some did not become clear until after I had grown up a bit, then the abilities - just happened. The latest ability did not become clear until I accepted a difficult past life: now, after over fifty years of living this present life, I have the clear talent of who I was many centuries ago - and people thought I have had this skill all this current lifetime! So it's very possible that you are going through the same kind of thing.
Is it possible you were Elvis? As you wrote - I've run into instances of a number of people who have believed that. It is more likely that you feel what is called archetypal identification: something about Elvis gives you a strong feeling of connection, either by similarities, or more likely the things you want to incorporate into your life. It is more likely a former self felt a strong attachment to Elvis, than that you were actually him.
Whenever someone feels a strong attachment to a famous past person, the very last thing that might be possible is that the person was a past life. Verifying that past life connection would depend on having clear obscure memories that can only be verified through extensive research, not anything that is in an easily accessible public record. Anytime you can verify a memory through a record is good and exciting, but verifying an obscure fact can make your hair stand on end... ;)
