HOW TO CLEAR H4 ERROR CODE ON A SHARP AL-1642CS and AL-1540CS

Would like to say thanks for the engineers code. I used it on a Sharp AL-1642CS which was only half a day old when the H4 error code appeared. I was getting ready to send it back when I came across your suggestion. Printer / scanner is now back in service, once again many thanks.

Also had a AL-1540CS with a H4 error code lying around waiting to be skipped:) Your advice cleared that printers H4 error code as well. This unit is now being used again as a scanner only. For some reason in printer mode it applies to much toner, maybe I'll investigate that problem another day:)

Just to clarify the code for others.

------------------------------------------------

PRESS: Clear - exposure - clear - exposure = the LED display will turn off.

PRESS: # of copy keys until you have 14 displayed.

PRESS: Enter.

------------------------------------------------

Hopefully this will clear all your SHARP H4 errors:)

Hi, John

I have a Sharp AR205 with a H4 error code.  It has happened before and after servicing went away. [Note no new fuser unit was installed.] I tried the 'Clr - Exp - Clr - Exp - enter 14 - Prnt sequence but the H4 code persists even during the reset attempt.

Would appreciate a note if you can help.

Regards,

Keith Harris

Hello everyone, i work at sharp and ill let ya know how to fix an H4. first off an  H4 means the fuser temperature is too low.  Which is commonly caused by a power outage, sometimes a power surge. More than likely theres nothing wrong with the unit. What u need to do is the following....If you have just the two buttons meaning a 10's button and a 1's button to make the copies hit C-Auto C-Auto twice within 3 seconds the unit will go dark if done correctly. Type in 14 like ur gonna make 14 copies and hit the copy button. If you have a unit with the full blown key pad such as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 on the unit hit #,*,C,* within 3 seconds unit will go dark type in 14 then copy that will reset the unit. However if that does not work it would be a service issue

Hi Andrew,

Glad I found this answer.  Our machine has been down for a week.  There was no way I was calling a tech to get this fixed.  Your fix for this owrked perfectly and we are back in Motion thanks to you and your help.

Re: Sharp 1540CS: today,4 years after Judy wrote her answer, I had this problem. Indeed, pushing the "C" (clear) button quickly followed by pushing the far left button which is the "auto" exposure button, followed again quickly pushing the C and then Auto button, it did clear the code. AFTER the code clears, enter 14 copies and push the green print button. Presto! It works. I believe I have a low voltage problem in my office that caused this code. As I recall, about 3 years ago I had the same code. I called Sharp Tech, and they ran me through the same process.

Preformed process as described and the unit is back working.  Thanks,

Had a power failure last night. This morning I had the H4 error. I checked the manual, which said to call tech support. The copier is nearly ten years old, so I knew it wouldn't be worthwhile to repair. Before recycling it, I googled the code and found this amazing site. I tried the fix described here and solved the problem I less than ten seconds. Incredible!  Thank you to the site and to the engineer who originally posted this simple fix.

Ken wrote I tried the steps a number of times (10-15) and was about to give up when I decided to give the machine a little love tap. I liftd one end and dropped it and tried your steps again and to my supprise all worked fine.( clear auto clear auto set copies to  14 and press the green print button.Perhaps machine needed a little wake up after power outage. All is well then ends well thanks very much for your information.
