Repairing Copiers & Faxes - hp psc750 scanner failure

Expert: Phil Sutherland - 8/28/2006

Question
Hi Phil,
I have a HP PSC750. I scanned 12 photos just fine. On the 13th I got an error on the printer that said "scanner failure. Turn power off then on." I did that several times. Even unplugged the power cable for 40 seconds. No luck. Any idea what could have happened? I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2.
Thanks.

Answer
hi scott
is the scan carriage in its home position or is it out.the scan carraige may have stalled on its rails. Turn the power off and unplug and then clean the scanner rails with a cloth dampened with a light oil.then run the scan carriage manually up and down to see if it moves freely.
if it doesnt move freely then you have probably got a problem with the drive motor.if it does leave the carriage in the middle position put all the covers back on plug in and switch on...the carriage should move itself to its home position and reset your fault if it doesnt move then you again it would sound like a motor problem.

Good luck

Phil
