Repetitive Strain Injury/burning pain in the side of the hip and running across the back of the hip

Question
I injured myself after doing a repetitive kickboxing move and have pain in the side of both hips and across my rear. It burns when I sit for long periods of time, 2 hours at the most. I have had this for 7 years now. Mri's and x rays have shown nothing. 6 different doctors told me nothing. I know it is muscle, but which ones and how can I stop this pain. My whole body has suffered since I have not been able to exercise for 7 years. thanks, Pam

Answer
Hi Pam,

This is definitely a repetitive strain injury and I'm happy to say that I've worked with thousands of people all over the world and we've proven that it can be reversed.

Before we get into the specific muscles that are likely to be causing your pain (iliopsoas, quadriceps, gluteus minimus and medius, tensor fascia lata, and probably the quadratus lumborum) I suggest you go to http://www.julstro.com and read "Muscles and Pain," and "What's Happening Exactly."

It has been my experience that doctors don't look at these muscles when searching for the source of pain, and both MRI's and Xrays don't show when a muscle is held in the contracted position.

When you come back here please know that I'm having a problem getting my messages from about.com so I probably won't be getting back to you in a timely fashion, but I will get it eventually.  You can also go to the forum on my website, I try to check that at least every two days.

I'm looking forward to working with you.

Wishing you well,

Expertise

I can accept questions that relate to chronic or acute pain caused by muscle spasms and contractions. Repetitive Strain Injury is actually Cumulative Trauma to muscles. Releasing the spasm &/or contraction will relieve the strain that is felt at the insertion point on the bone.

Past/Present Clients
Privacy prevents me from filling in this section without prior consent from my clients. Life Experience: I have been specializing in the treatment of chronic pain and sports injuries since receiving my NY massage license in 1989. A personal bout with carpal tunnel syndrome was the catalyst to my developing a self-treatment that heals CTS quickly and without surgery. My work with endurance athletes was the inspiration to teach people how to self-treat so they could stop pains even during a race or heavy training day. Both of these situations ultimately became the products that are sold on my websites http://www.carpaltunneltreatment.org and http://www.julstro.com. I currently have a private practice in Chapel Hill, NC (http://www.SportMassageChapelHill.com)
