Experience
I have a few years of experience owning and researching many species of reptiles. I have been asked to write articles for numerous reptile based websites and I have my own website focused towards reptile care. I currently own two Chinese Water Dragons, two Leopard Geckos, two Green Anoles and two Red Ear Slider Turtles. I have been involved with reptiles since I was a young kid and plan to be involved still for many years to come.

Question
hiyy remember me thanks to you i now no my geckos a female but since then i have bought a male and i am hopping to bread them next year but the male keeps eating the sand and i do know this can lead to impaction but i dont know how to stop him or why hes doing it please help!

Answer
Hi Louii, Remove the sand immediately. Sand is one of the worst substrates you can put a lizard on. Because of impaction. He is eating it because he needs calcium be sure you are providing them with a dish of pure calcium powder for him. Use papertowels, newspaper, reptile carpet, or tile flooring for substrate. Something that he cant eat. Thats the only way to stop him. Sand is very dangerous if eaten. So replace it with a safer substrate and add the calcium.

Good luck
