Question
Hello,
It is November in Charlotte, NC, and we have a small green anole trapped in our house. I have attempted to catch it to release it back outside, but it evades me, and I am sure I have traumatized it by my attempts. We do want to respect its wildness and not capture and contain it...and we do not want it to die in our house because it does not have enough to eat, drink etc. We do not mind sharing our home with the anole (we live in an older home with alot of spiders and do not believe in using harsh, non-organic poisons). My question is - is it imperative that we capture and release him outside for his survival, or can we ignore him and he will thrive in the warmth of our home this winter? We have an Italian Greyhound who is oblivious to him..there is always water out for him. We just want what's best for the anole. Please advise.
Answer
Crack a window (and screen) in the area where you usually see him and if he wants to get out he probably will. Otherwise you'll have to catch him. I don't know if there would be enough bugs in your home to keep him happy or not. But if he's still evading you he must have plenty of energy!
