Respiratory: Allergies & Sinus Problems - Long term side effects of antibiotics for chronic sinusitus

Expert: azis - 10/6/2008

Question
I have been fighting allergies and chronic sinusitis for the past 14 years, at their worst.  I am a 43 year old female. I developed allergies around the age of 12, to: trees, grass, mold (tested highly allergic to), as well as animal dander.  (I cannot be around dogs or cats). I had taken allergy shots for a few years, until the age of around 19, off and on.  All of these have progressed throughout the years, again, the past 14 years being the worst.  I consistently get sinus infections every 6-8 weeks, almost religiously. The first signs I have become used to are left ear pain, which have always resulted in "fluid in the left ear", then the sinus infection.  I have taken many OTC medications, as well as the usual trip to the doctor's for antibiotics. I have tried, and do believe in alternative treatments. Acupuncture has been a relief for me, but hasn't cured the problem.  Throughout the past few years however, I have taken several different types of antibiotics.  I had sinus surgery last year, only on the left side of my nose, as the MRI showed an almost completely blocked sinus passage on that side.  This has given me some relief, as I do breathe much better through the left side, but now my right side becomes infected. I have had 3 sinus infections since the sinus surgery last year. I have become greatly concerned, or scared I should say from the long term side effects I may have from constant use of antibiotics, and I am trying to "combat" my problem without always relying on the antibiotics.  As much as I try not to take them, the result is always seeing the doctor for an infection that I've let go too long, hoping my body will fight the infections and heal on its own.   I have researched as much as I can, and I still am, about the side effects of long term use.  I had a very serious tooth infection last year.  I did not realize the severity of it.  My dentist had told me, that quite possibly, from all the antibiotics I had been taking, they may have kept the infection "at bay" for a time. My tooth infection had gone deep into the bone instead of surfacing into an abscess.  I also have developed a toe fungus, (although not athletes foot). My doctor said I tested positive for a fungus that I may have picked up outside on grass, etc.  I was quite surprised, or shocked because I have excellent hygiene, and never walk outside barefoot, or especially being on vacation in hotels, always cover my feet and wear something on my feet.  I did ask him "is it possible from all the antibiotics I've taken, it has lowered the good bacteria in my body, and I my have picked up a germ easily that the 'good bacteria" didn't fight?  His answer was absolutely.  I am now on Lotrimin to fight the toe infection.  I also always get yeast infections following the antibiotics, and at the beginning of my sinus infections, I always have a "metal" taste in my mouth.  What can I do to find the source of what is causing my constant infections, and what can I try alternatively instead of constant medications?  I am very concerned about the long term side effects.  Will taking probiotics build up good bacteria to counter all of antibiotics I have or need to take for every sinus infection?  Thank you, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Linda,
I’m sorry for your suffering and I hope you are helped soon as my patients before.
The complication may be caused by using much of drug for a long time. Usually it works to decrease nerve sensitivity and you can imagine the effects, if all your nerves and antibody are being weakened all day and for years?
I can say too long, because its not effective without my direct treatments. For natural healing, You need my special therapy in part of your body like ears, lung, nose, tooth, tongue etc. Last month I cure my patient from UK and she satisfied. This month she will come to finish another problem.
These are my advices; avoid strong aromas, stay often in clean air and place, and get the morning sunlight. You can find much of testimony in my site. You can find also the other advices in my book “Avoid Addiction to Medicine” in www.PennasiaNormalization.com. There are advices for 49 diseases.
My regards to you and God bless you!!
If you don’t feel satisfied with this explanation, you can send a letter to my email aziscw@yahoo.co.id

Sincerely,

Azis
