Question Hi...I've been seen by an ENT regarding these tiny bumps in my throat...apparently due to nasal drainage from allergies. They called it Lymphoid Hyperplasia. It feels like a constant lump is in my throat and if I'm able to cough up mucous, it's clear and not a weird color. This is very frustrating to have this feeling 24/7. I just moved to TX in November and the symptoms started in March. I have never had allergies until moving here. Now we're moving back to FL in 2 weeks (work related). Have you heard of this Lymphoid Hyperplasia and does it usually resolve on its own? I know there is bermuda grass all over here in TX and I was once told I was allergic to that as a child. Thanks for your help. I just hate this constant lumpy mucousy feeling in my throat. ack!
Answer Hi Shea,
Let me just say up front that I was not familiar with the term lymphoid hyperplasia, and a Web search revealed next to no information, except to say that it seems to be more commonly associated with the intestine than the throat. At any rate, it seems to be more a description of a symptom than a stand-alone condition.
However, you should know that bermuda grass is definitely one of the most common grass pollens around that can cause allergic reactions. So, it's entirely possible that it is what you're reacting so severely to. Hopefully, when you move away from that trigger, your symptoms will lessen or resolve.
Meanwhile, are you being treated? I'm wondering if an antihistamine would provide any relief. Both Claritin and Zyrtec are available over the counter now and can be very effective at relieving symptoms. Or you could ask your doctor about prescribing Allegra, Singulair or a nasal spray antihistamine.
