I have a sinus problems for 4 months now and they are not getting better. The headache and congestion do not seem to go away. At first I was given antibiotics, steroids and sprays but they all seemed not to work. Then I started using saline, the netipot and gargoling salt water but still no relief.
I found out I had a deviated septum and the doctor performed surgery 3 weeks ago (i think its called a septoplasty). I can say that I got most of the old blood and crust out and my nose does feel better. But it feels like all the mucus is still stuck in my head and its not coming out. I feel like I am going to have to live with ths for the rest of my life. Is there any relief? Is it possible that i Have developed a disease that won't go away?
The doctor drained me out once and I am scheduled for 2 more times of drainage. The doctor said its still too early in the surgery to tell but, I know it did nothing. Can anyone help me?
Answer Hi Andrew,
Sorry about the delay in answering. I had surgery myself last week (oral) and have been out of commission for a few days. But I wanted to encourage you to trust your doctor. He is really the best one to talk to about your current condition, as he has examined you (or can).
Surgery is traumatic to tissues and can take a while to get over. It's entirely possible that the discomfort you are still feeling is due to the healing from the surgery.
That being said, there is such a thing as chronic sinusitis. But, honestly, the best person to answer such personal questions as your prognosis is a physician who has examined you. If you're not happy with your current doctor, you always have the right to get a second opinion.
