Question
I quit smoking 12 years ago I am 50 year old male. When I smoked it was about half a pack a day on and off for 10 years. My mother in law who has COPD said if you ever smoked or been around second hand smoke that you have COPD. That if I am not feeling the symptoms now I will when I get older. Is she right?

Answer
The quick and easy answer to your question is No, she is not right. A smoking history is not a guarantee that you will have COPD one day. Also, simply being around second-hand smoke also does not guarantee COPD, though surely is can only increase you chances.
