Question
Ruth,
Thank you for your time.  I have been busy taking care of my three children for the last 10 years.  Now that my youngest will be starting school this August I am ready to get back to work.  Can you give me any advice on how to prepare for applications and interviews after so many years out of the work force?  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Tanya:

You are in a situation many people are in, so that is a good thing!  Hopefully, you have done some type of volunteer work or kept up with skills from your field.  Your interview is straightforward...just like any interview you would have with the typical questions.  You can simply state what you have told me about being ready to return to the work force.  Make sure you have a plan if a child gets ill...you may be asked this.  A good book to read about interview questions is by M. Yates...Knock Em Dead (Interviewing).  If you can, read this before you start interviewing because it is the best book on the subject.  Warmly, R. Butler
