Resume Help - Relocation

Expert: Torski Dobson-Arnold - 7/1/2009

Question
Dear Torski:

How can I tell a future employer on my cover letter that I'm available for relocation to Canada?

I actually live in Mexico.

Thanks,
Will

Answer
Will,

You can identify your availability for relocation several ways.  As you mentioned, you can note this in the cover letter in the last paragraph as you speak about your availability to interview and meet with the decision maker of the organization.

Another way to get the attention of a prospective employer is to take up a post office box in the area you wish to relocate and add it as your address on your resume.  You can also do this without the expense of purchasing a post office box by using the address of a relative or friend who already lives in the area.

One final thought on relocation is that you can identify your intention of relocation in the footer of your Word document so that it can easily been seen by the reader, particularly if your resume is more than one page long.

I hope this helps!

Claiming nothing but success in all of your career endeavors,

Torski
