My previous employer promoted me after completing one year of employment.
Where and how in my cover letter can I list this achievement?
I was thinking in something like this:
* Proven ability to quickly learn new concepts and technologies as demonstrated by promotion after completing 1 year of employment.
Thanks,
Bob
Answer Hi Bob,
I think this comment reflects your sincere desire to perform well in the positions you accept and do so in the employer's best interest. The best place to use this comment would be to list it under accomplishments for the particular employer or previous position.
If you feel that this accomplishment will portray your value to a potential employer in the future, you might try incorporating this character trait in the cover letter with a technique like this:
"As you will note in review of the attached resume, my ability to quickly grasp concepts in support of corporate objectives has been recognized through increased responsibility".
By using this strategy, you will be able to briefly mention the accomplishment; intrigue the reader to look further into the resume; and leave room for expressing additional assets or skills that you will bring to the organization.
Remember that on average, most employers will review a candidate's performance for advancement after the first year of employment, and some in as little as 6 months. If the company you are seeking employment with considers promotions in less than a year, you would not want to portray in the cover letter that you are content with waiting a year or more for a review or promotion consideration; especially if outstanding performance warrants consideration!
I hope this information helps you out a bit, and I am sure you will be able to prepare a great cover letter introduction!
