Question
Hi Ruth,

With my current employer, I received 5 promotions in my first 3 years of employment. I would like to list this on my resume but don't want to turn off a potential employer by sounding arrogant. A. Should I list this? B. How can I write it without sounding arrogant? Thank you!

-Kayla

Answer
Dear Kayla:

Yes, I would list it factually.

Example:  Manager, 2010- Present
Promoted to this position because of excellent customer service.
         List duties

         Assistant Manager, 2009 - 2010
Because of excellent customer service, given the position of Assistant Manager
         List duties

So, you list the positions starting with the current ones and working backwords giving the factual reason for promotion.

Warmly, R. Butler
