Question I currently manage a full service retirement community and have 15 years managing apartment buildings form low income to luxury patio homes. In order to be more marketable and enhance my career choices I'd like to be able to manage commercial properties as well as residential like plazas, office buildings etc.
I've looked into a CPM & RPA certification but would like to know what your opinion is in how to break into this end of the business.
Thank You!

Answer Obtaining the RPA & CPM credentials would be good, as some institutional investors require them. At the very least, you need to get the benefit of the education that some of those courses provide, as commercial real estate is an entirely different animal than residential (even though some of the same skills are applicable to both). Beyond that, there's no secret to breaking in to the business....when you're ready, start applying at commercial management firms. You may need to start near the bottom of the ladder until you get commercial experience under your belt. Best of luck.
