Retirement Planning - 401K rollover to IRA

Expert: David M Iannopollo - 10/21/2009

Question
I am over 59 1/2 and on Social Security disability.  I also have a small 401K (>15K) from a previous job that I would like to rollover to a regular IRA. If I do so, will it effect my disability eligibility?

Answer
Hi Winnie,
I cannot find your specific situation on the SS website, but I do not believe you would be affected by rolling over your 401k. I would check to make sure by calling SS or try using one of their calculators at their website: http://www.ssa.gov/disability/. Good luck!

Dave
