Question My sister is 63 and looking ahead to plan for an early retirement. She is not sure who to talk to and get information from regarding such a thing and I have no ideas on who to tell her to talk to. I am hoping you can point me in the right direction. Where should I go to talk to someone about this? Thank you in advance for your assistance!
Richard
Answer If she is a do-it-yourselfer, she can read lots of books that discuss retirement income planning. Or if she isn't, she can find someone who has already done that work. There are designations that those people earn, the most well-known of which is the CFP. These people generally make money on commissionable financial products, though there are some that offer advice for a fee instead. Most recommend seeing the fee-only advisors, though there may be a lack of these types of advisors in your area. If you can't find any, it is perfectly reasonable to go to a financial advisor that comes highly recommended.
Myself, I don't take commissions, and I'd be happy to help her with more questions, but I'm not actively gathering clients at the moment.
