Question
would a doctor use a shot of steroid for bone spur (bursitis)

Answer
Jim,

Steroid shots are one of the main treatments for pain associated with bone spurs. Steroids remove inflammation and there by reduce the pain. Of course this does nothing for the bone spur itself. There are just two ways of treating a bone spur. Treat the symptoms it causes or surgically remove the spur.
