Rheumatology (including Arthritis) - Lower back and right hip area

Expert: Rusty Ford - 2/5/2009

Question
First I have a so called crush disc in the lower back which gives me grief now and then but at this time I have something wrong that I can't understand.
For a couple weeks I've had pain in my right hip area. Saturday morning the pain went into my lower back and around the top of my hip bone all the way around to some pain in my right testicle.
The pain is constant but all the muscles in this area keep spasaming? with severe pain.  When I sit down the my own weight feels like its crushing two discs together with great pain. The same with standing most of the time.
I went to the doctor and got muscle relaxers and pain killers with no luck.  I went back to the doctor and he gave me 4 shots in the right hip area to relieve the pain.  Did not work. He said to go to a chiropractor. I went two days ago and nothings changed. The pain just sitting here is really bad in my right testicle all the way along the front of my lower stomach and across the the top of my hip to the center of my back where it feels like somethings wrong. Help would be nice right now. My work is affected and so is my personal life.  Thanks,

Answer
Terry,

It is interesting that I suffer the same type of pain. Pain radiating from my lower back into my testicles.

The first thing I would do is to ask the doctor to check out your lower back to make sure that your back problem has not gotten worse. A CAT scan or MRI would be needed to accurately tell if the disc problem has gotten worse.

The talk to your doctor about seeing a spine specialist and physical therapy.

Physical therapy has worked wonders for me. I still have occasional pain in the abdomen and testicles but strengthening the support muscles to the spine has taken pressure off of the disc and taken most of the pain away.

Rusty
