Rheumatology (including Arthritis) - sjogrens

Expert: Dr. Timothy K. Durnin - 5/1/2009

Question
can you test positive for sjogrens and not have it? I had an ana test that came back 1.7.

Answer
An ANA test is not specific , it only elevates in the presence of an auto-immune disorder. There are many such as MS, ALS, SLE, Chrone's, UC and many others. More  specific tests will be done that correlate with your signs and symptoms to definatively diagnose the condition. An ANA and anti-dna double strand with other blood tests should be considered to help narrow down the Dx. So, the answer to your question is yes, but you might have something else, follow up with a Good Internal Medicine doctor.

Good Luck!
