QuestionI have the start of degenerative arthritis in one of my discs. Is there any exercise to relieve some of the pain at times...or anyway to stop or slow down the process?
Thanks,
Joe
AnswerDear Joe, The more common name for generative arthritis is
"osteoarthritis"..... This type of arthritis is caused by age, over-use of the joint, the wearing down of the cartiledge or disc space, sports, some occupations etc.....
To slow the process would be to start avoiding all of the possible causes for the osteoarthritis.... However, to stop working (if you have a labor job) would not be possible, but watching how you bend, what you pick up etc, will help... If you play sports, then lessen your activity in this sport... Be mindfull that the back is always used and lifting weights or heavy object is NOT wise....
Since you are newly diagnosed and your condition is not nearly as severe as mine, I strongly suggest that your doctor set you up an appointment with a physical therapist at the hospital or clinic.... This way you will know the PROPER exercise that will HELP and not harm you back any more than it already is and possibly keep osteoarthritis from forming in other discs.....
If you are overweight, you MUST loos weight....
Here is just one web site about osteoarthritis and there are many more out there....
