Question
Dear Karen,

I am a male aged 43 years and was recently diagnosed osteoarthritis in my neck to my big surprise.
I am experiencing moderate pain and reduced mobility in my neck.
I have been taking Glucosamin Ferrosan tablets for a few months now and not experienced any improvement.
At my job I am physically handling lots of rather heavy objects as well as driving a fork lift as I am employed at an airline cargo department.
What I was wondering is, will in your experience my present job lead to that my condition deteriorates further?
And what precautions should I take, so that I don't end up as a disabled person in a short while?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely
Michael Christoffersen

Answer
Dear Michael,  As you know or the doctor should have told you, osteoarthritis is the type of arthritis that is caused by job related stress on cartiledge between the joints...  It is also caused by aging, sports related activities etc...

Glucosamin Ferrosan is a suppliment that is NOT "FDA" apporved and therefore, there is no research available that it really works, or that it may interfer with other medications that you take or will take in the future...  If you have been taking it for a few months and show no signs of improvement, that should tell you that this is NOT the suppliment for you and maybe you should seek out other medication or ask your doctor since Glucosamin is often mixed with other agents that may work better....

As for your job, yes, it can cause more deterioration of your cartiledge in your neck, but I would suggest that you see an Orthopedic doctor who can monitor you, set you up with occupational therapy which will tell you how to prevent further damage to the neck joints, and offer you better advice that a GP or family doctor....

Here is a web site that may help you with different types of treatments and medications etc.

thank you,   karen
