Question I tried to transplant a large golden cane palm in mid spring. with no success .when i transplanted a smaller one it was fine.Is ther much successs rate in transfering the larger palms? should i have done something different?I filled the hole with water before planting .i put it in the position of which it was in the ground the same as the neighbour who gave me the palm.It was in a open area .thank-you
Answer Hi and thanks for your question. With any species of tree, it becomes more likely they will not survive transplanting as they age; an older palm would have a smaller chance of survival than a younger one. Another factor which affects this is the weather, if it is too hot or cold, the roots will be damaged. Also if the site is very open and prone to wind, it would be worth sheltering the palm to protect it against the elements.
I hope this has been of some help, if you have any further questions, please get in touch.
