Question I have a 4 step stone/rock steps that was layed 15 years ago and is now beginning to have some loose mortor joints/cracks and the steping stones are becomeing unsafe to step on. If I remember right the fellow mix a sort of dry mix and not a regular morter mix, but it work very well. Can you help me on this mix so I can try to repair the steps. I have only about 4 to 5 stones to repair.
THANKS

Answer Hi, and thanks for your question. If the stones need rebedding into place, lift them and lay about one inch (2.5 cm) of sharp sand. Place the stone into their places in the sand. A dry mix is about four parts of soft/fine sand to one part of cement powder. This is then brushed into the joints of the stones and sprayed gently with a watering can. Its a fairly easy task, and shouldn't take too long. Be careful not to lift too much weight and always bend your knees when lifting. I hope this is of some help, please don't hesitate to contact me again if you have any problems.
