Question Hi, i bought two male mice a week ago and they seem to have settled in well, the only problem is even if im a metre away from the cage, they run and hide. I understand they are scared but i have tried talking to them, stroking them, feeding them and picking them up. I cleaned them out yesterday and had to put them in seperate boxes because they kept escaping! Please help, as i have wanted a pet mouse for ages!
Answer Hi!
What your petstore keeper 'forgot' to mention: Male mice do NOT tolerate other males! Males should always be kept separately, only females should be kept in groups.
As for the behaviour, it may be very likely that the presence of one another causes stress to the little guys. I would suggest purchasing good terrariums for both of them, and not keeping them near where they could smell each other. Also, mice have different personalities - some are naturally shy while others incredibly friendly. How they were handled by the breeder also plays a big role in how the little ones turn out!
All in all, once they've been separated and you'll continue to provide them with alot of patience and love, the boys will most definitely grow up to be decent bucks. :-) Best of luck!
