About Brandy Expertise I currently have 11 animals in a one bedroom apartment, 9 of which are rodents, I can answer questions about most rodents specifically: Chinchillas, Degus, Ferrets, Guinea Pigs, and hamsters. I can give you advice not only on how to care for them so that they live a long healthy life, but also some money saving tips as well, I know and understand that having a pet rodent is as sometimes alot of work and can be pricey at times, so I will do my best to help in anyway possible. I am not a vet, I know about the diets of the animals but if your animal is having very strange symptoms, I suggest you see a vet, not me.
Experience I have 4 pet chinchillas, a degu, 2 ferrets, a guinea pig, and a hamster. I love these animals and I know how hard it is to learn how to take care of some of them such as chinchillas. I know what they cannot and what they can eat, and know many of the signs of different potential illnesses.
Education/Credentials I am currently in college majoring in animal science and minoring in zoology.
Question I have 2 furred rats. 1 is female and my daughter brought home a furred male. They are still pretty young. I have just purchased a hairless female and introduced it. I know that I need to separate them, but not sure how. I noticed that the hairless now sleeps in the house they have and the other 2 sleep outside together. Why is this? They act like they want nothing to do with the hairless.
Answer Hello Julie, the reason that your two haired rats are treating the hairless like an outsider is because the other two recognize that they are of the same type. A good comparison is when you put two dogs in a room with a cat, the two dogs will team up to get rid of the cat, its not that they wont ever like each other, its just instinct.
