Follow-Ups to Answer from Expert Melissa

Getting gerbils for your brother is a great idea. Who wouldn't love a cute, cuddly gerbil? They don't smell as bad as other rodents, they're smaller and easier to look after, they're awake in the day and active, and most importantly, they're cute!
If you do get gerbils for your brother, though, you should get two gerbils. We all know that one person -- especially if it's a kid, a.k.a. your brother -- can't play with the gerbil every single hour, every day for seven days a week, not to mention that there are four to five weeks in a month and twelve months a year, and that gerbils usually live for about 3-5 years. Gerbils get lonely quite often if they are not played with, so while your brother is at school every morning, the gerbil will have another playmate to play with -- another gerbil! Gerbils are social, and they love living with each other. I suggest that before you buy your brother a gerbil (HOPEFULLY two) that you search for information about gerbils on the internet. There are great care guides that tell a lot about gerbils.
Your brother will be really happy with his new gerbil(s) this summer!
