Question
My guinea pig is becoming skinny and sad. For more than a week he only eats a bit of greens and some pellets. He doesn't accept carrots.
The breast near his mouth is always wet. The excrements are OK. A female who lives in the same cage is OK.
I took him to the vet and he said that it may be poisoning and gave him Arsenicum Album and Nux Vomica for 15 days. I think he is going to die before 15 days.
I think it's teeth overgrowing or abscess in his gums because he is just eating food easy to chew.
It's very difficult to find a vet for guinea pigs in my country. Most of vets just deal with cats and dogs.
Please, help me.
Thanks,
Lilian

Answer
Dear Lilian,
You did a good thing by taking you guinea pig to the vet. If you think that his teeth are overgrown than you should ask your vet if its possible for him to have them trimmed. If they will not due that, then just feed him soft things and try to make things easy for him. How old is he? If he is getting near his life expectancy then it may just be his time to go. Hope that helped a little, Good Luck!
