Question
I found a mouse that my dog had got this morning, it had to cuts on it's back. One was pretty bad so I put a butterfly bandage on  it to keep the skin together ( i didn't know what else to do) we put iton a blanket in this little box we had, and put him on the porch. We found him quite a few hours ago, and I read something about feeding it warm watered down milk.  Is that right? or is there anything else we can do?We probably won't keep it just nurse it back to health. Thanks

Answer
Hi!

Unfortunately from the lack of information I can't determine the age of the mouse in question. If the mouse had no coat, it was under 10 days old, and if it had developed his first coat but had his eyes still closed, it was 10-14 days old.

The mother nurses her babies up to 3,5 weeks, and if the young gets lost from its mother before it's old enough, the chances of survival are extremely slim. You can attempt to feed him with special formulas (watered down milk won't provide nearly enough nutrients), but this would have to be done every couple of hours.

And of course, if the mouse is older than 3,5 weeks it wouldn't have the slightest trouble of escaping from a simple box. :-)
