Expertise
I can answer most questions about hedgehogs. I can answer questions about basic care, handling, symptoms and treatments to common hedgehog illnesses, housing, and how to make cheap toys for hedgehogs. I cannot answer questions about how to treat serious illnesses in these animals, but I can help find a good veterinarian in any state.

Experience
I have owned a female African Pygmy hedgehog for four years. I have also read many publications on the care of this breed of hedgehog.

Question
Hello, I am consdiering buying a 2 3/4 year oldmale hedgehog as a future breeder, he is peddigree and was bred in thepast by a good breeder, my questions is not about breeding but rather is thsi hedgehog considered old? he wont die in three months will he lol, please get back to me with your option, thanks.

Answer
Hedgehogs can live 5-10 years, usually 5 years in the wild. It is common for hedgehogs to develop cancer, usually around 5 years of age, but not always. It is not recomended to bread after the hedgehog is 2 years of age. I don't think he will die in 3 months, but he is getting near the end of his life.

Breeding is also very difficult, and it gets more difficult with age. There is a reason the breeder is letting him go.
