Question i am a barrel trainee and i am looking for a good type of horse to barrelrace with. Me and my dad have looked at many sales to see if we can find 1 but we still can't. What is a good horse to Barrelrace with?

Answer well, this question varies a lot, and I'm not quite sure what you have currently been searching for, but generally, for a barrel horse, the quarter horse is the best breed to barrel race with. They are quick in short distances and have the ability to turn on a dime. You want a horse generally around 14.3HH to 15.2HH, but, even now, I'm training a barrel horse that is almost 16HH, but he just can't handle small arena's very well. You want a horse that wants to run, but not too much that you lose control...but one that is aggressive in it's run. Not like "mean" aggressive, but one that pushes himself to go faster, so you don't waste time trying to make him run. You want a horse that has control, like you can side step him, move his shoulders and hind quarters only...stuff like that. and you want him soft on the bit and neck. Another good breed for barrel racing are paints. they are just about as well as quarter horses. my 16hh horse that I'm training is a paint and my first barrel horse was a paint. but, it's been known to have a large variety of horses to barrel race really well also. I've heard that Arabians, appaloosas', and standardbreds, and thoroughbreds have all been known to done well in barrel racing. Mainly, it's the training and experience that you want to look for. :) hope this helps and if you have any further questions, let me know. thanks.
