Question QUESTION: I'm trying to find an American movie which I guess was made sometime in the 80's. The opening scene is a suited guy in a cafe who walks out without paying for his coffee. The blonde waitress follows him out to charge the bill. From here on I remember they hit the road in his car and sometime during the ride she pulls off her blonde wig to show her own natural dark hair. I don't know if i've got the right category, but I'm sure the film ended happily. Hope you can help, Robert.

That's the exact information I needed to confirm what I suspected. You are looking for the movie "Something Wild" (1986) starring Jeff Daniels as Charlie and Melanie Griffith as Lulu and Ray Liotta as her violent ex.
Here is the synopsis from IMDB:
"The uneventful life of business-man Charles Driggs suddenly changes when he meets the wild and sexy Lulu. When he accepts her offer to drive him back to his office, she instead takes him out of town and on a trip, leaving behind his old life. Posing as a married couple, Charles and Audrey (which turns out to be Lulu's real name) visit her mother and her high school reunion. At this reunion they meet Audrey's violent ex-husband Ray, who's just released from jail. When Ray makes it clear that he wants Audrey back, that's when the real trouble begins. "
And yes, it begins when he leaves the cafe without paying the check and he's called out on it by Lulu, who he thinks is the waitress. It was directed by Jonathan Demme and is available for sale or rent on DVD.
