Question I have a 1 storey house , its about 2 yr old they used 'M' type struss , i was wondering if the 45 degree angled 2X4 connecting the two vertical 2X4(s) be cut to make some clear attic space , am talking about 3 or 4 trusses, and put 1/2" or 3/4" plywood along the vertical 2X4 and on the floor to strenthen it .
Answer I have seen this done. It doesn't mean that it meets code, but the "M" portion is removed and as high as you can go a 2x4 is placed horizontally with metal framing plates. This will keep some of the strength but I wouldn't do this to many of them. The "M" is to keep the roof from collapsing under weight.
