Question
We recently had a new shed built with a "Barn" or Gambrel style roof.  My question is the where the asphalt shingles transition from one plane to the next there is a row of roofing nails clearly visible.  Both the shed manufacture and the roofer they use have told me this is required by code.  Our community has adopted IBC 2006 with no modifications.  I've read most of the code and can not find any thing that describes what I'm seeing.  So are these guys yanking my chain or have I over looked something in the code.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi M.J.

It would seem That there should be something covering the exposed nails like metal so some type of sealant.
with out seeing it, it's hard to advise I would think someone would want to fix this problem. Roofer or the manufacture.
The only advice I can give to you is seal the nail heads with a sealant and paint with same color as shingle.

I hope this helps
