Subject: Tin roof over shingles

Question
Hi Todd, you answered a question about putting a tin roof right on top of shingles on a double wide moble home for me a few days ago and I really appreciated your answer. I forgot to  ask you though the roof is doing alot of popping and cracking and I was wondering if this is normal and also the guy that put the roof on covered up the vents but he said that he cut a hole in the roof for venting is this normal and how can cutting a hole in the roof then placing tin on top of it help to vent. Thanks again for any help.

Answer
It sounds like he may have added a ridge vent which can work well provided he did it correctly.

As for the popping, that is not real common but it is possible to hear some during temperature swings.
