Question

QUESTION: here is a picture, tom
thanks, mitch

ANSWER: Hi Mitchell

From the picture It looks like nails are coming up from ridge area pull nails that are coming up and renail the ridge, Looking at the picture can not see the field area, what you need to look for is felt exposer or a hole between the shakes if found insert a piece of tin or a wood shingle something to protect the felt or the hole that maybe there.

if any shakes are missing you need to place a new one in it's place.

I hope this helps

Good luck

Tom

QUESTION: Tom,

thanks for the prompt response.
what about nailing back down the popped staples?
if new ones are needed do you advise staples or nails
is that old cedar liable to crack with new nails
if i do nothing is it likely to cause troubles down the road?
what would you do if it was your roof?
thanks again,
mitch

Answer
Hi Mitch

You could nail down the staples and then seal them, add nails as well next to the staples and seal the tops of them both, If you choose to do nothing the staples will come back up down the line and ridge will not stay in place, when adding the nail use a 8 d nail. this what I would do. if you have a staple gun with a long enough staple I would use that.

Good luck
Tom
