Roofing - Roof felt

Expert: Brad Zacharia - 11/10/2009

Question
I am an architect in Seattle working on a standard 10:12 roof pitch. We usually say use 30# felt under roof. Do people ever use #60 roof felt?
Thanks,
Ester

Answer
I've never heard of using 60 lb paper for shingles. Most roofers use #15. It's just used for a moisture barrier. In fact felt paper is not even best for shingles. They make special underlayments for shingles that are better. Then again, you never said what kind of roof.
