Roofing - Sheating a roof

Expert: Brad Zacharia - 11/11/2009

Question
How do you lift 4X8 osb sheating over the rafter tails onto the roof? Right now it is only my husband and myself. I am not much help. But if we had an idea on the easiest way to get them up there. We have 14ft trusses all ready on and the walls are 10Ft high.

Thanks.
Sherry

Answer
Use a ladder or a plank that does not extend much above the roof. Use a rope with a hook or a noose that will tighten when you pull. The one on the ground ties it and can push up a little while the one on the roof pulls on the rope. make sure you have good traction on the roof (not too steep) or nail in boards to get a good footing. Pull the sheet until it's all the one the roof. It would be better if there were two people on the roof to grab the sheet and place it where you want to stack them. When pulling it up don't mess with it near the edge. Pull it back farther before you handle it.
