Roofing - Minimum Temperature for TPO Roof Install

Expert: Ron Haynes - 6/9/2009

Question
What is the minimum temperature that a White TPO Fully Adhered Roof may be installed for a commercial building application

Answer
Aaron,
The acceptable in-service temperature of TPO roof membranes is well into the below freezing range.  As for the temperatures at time of installation, when you reach 40F and below there are precautions to be taken to warm materials for installation and to accommodate proper seam welding and adhesive set-up and avoid condensation and icing of the adhesives and membrane surface, as well as comfort issues for the installers that can impact quality of the installation.  For more insight you might consult the published installation guide of a TPO manufacturer (Firestone, GAF, etc.).  The link to Firestone TPO is:

I hope this information is helpful.
