Roofing - Roof vents

Expert: Tom Souza - 6/28/2009

Question
I own a home in Milwaukee, WI, with a hip roof>  Would you recommend slant back roof vents over a ridge vent?  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Mike

Roof vents will over all work better for you, Ridge venting tend to leak in cold weather, Ice forms at the bottom of ridge vent and when it thaws out it tends to leak back into the attic area. This is coming from people that live in these cold areas.

Good luck

Tom Souza
