Roofing - asphalt roofing

Expert: Michael J. Owen - 6/29/2009

Question
why do I have water dripping down behind the metal drip edge on edge of roof after a new roof was installed?

Answer
Hi Richard. If this is when it rains it could be because there is no starter row of shingles over the drip edge. The tar/felt paper should also be installed above the drip edge and not under it. The tar/felt paper and shingles should extend over the drip edge by about 1/4".
Another problem may be that the fascia tends to be slightly higher than the edge of the decking therefore creating a valley where water can run back.

Hope this answers your question.
