Roofing - overhang

Expert: Michael J. Owen - 6/28/2009

Question
im trying to extend a overhang on the side of a 20 by 12 sunroom. how do i go about doing that?

Answer
Hi Paul. Without being able to see your situation, it is hard for me to advise on the best method. However, You would have to take off the fascia boards. Add 2" x 4"'s to all the ends of the trusses and cut them off where you want the roof to extend. Then add plywood or OSB boards. Add new tar/felt paper which would be tucked up under the existing. This may require removing some of the existing shingles. Put back the fascia boards and re-shingle.
You could ask a local handyman for an estimate and pick his brains as to how he would go about the job.
Hope this helps.
