Question QUESTION: Hi Michael, we just re roofed using a licensed contractor. Our contract states "Certainteed 30 yrs architect 50" but we just found out they used Pabco Premier 30. We were told Pabco is a cheaper, lower quality tile by other roofers. Can you comment.
Thank you
ANSWER: Hi Virginia. I just happened to be on my computer and can certainly comment on your question.
This sort of thing happens all the time, I am afraid to say.
Firstly, if you still owe money on the job, do not pay another red cent.
If you can, take a copy of the contract and a label from the roof shingle to a construction attorney, the BBB, the local or state licensing office and raise bloody hell. (Excuse my French)
Secondly, in all my years as a roofing contractor in the southern states, I have never come across Pabco products but I will research the company.
You should be in a position to either accept a serious reduction in the cost of the job or have the roof installed as per your contract.
I can only wish you the very best of luck and hope I could help a little.
I see you have read my response already and I came up with this:
QUESTION: Hi Michael, thank you for your prompt response and the information you have provided. The new roof also leaks in several places and there are other problems. I think getting an attorney is the way to go as the job was completed and payed for several months ago. Unfortunately this type of situation is quite common in Hawaii were the word professional has no meaning.
Answer Holy pig roasting on a Sunday morning Virginia. I guess we are now officially internet dating. LOL. I see that Pabco have a distributor or two in HI. Had I known that before, I would have dropped you like a hot potato. Having been to the Islands, I know exactly what you are talking about. My wife and I were thinking of buying a property on Kuawai but with all the B.S. we decided against it. Sorry to hear you have shelled out the payment and good luck.
